Purpose and Goals

 

The Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation is organized, administered, and operated exclusively to receive, administer and expend funds as a public charity for among such other objectives and illustrative purposes only, and not by way of limitation, the following purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code as it may be amended from time to time:

 

Over arching goal – “Educate fellow military &  general public about the long and rich history of  Warrant Officer Corps.”

 

UNDERTAKINGS TO ACHIEVED THE GOAL

  • Accept and Manage the Warrant Officer Museum Fund formerly held by the U. S. Army Warrant Officers Association.

  • Publish a Warrant Officer History Book.

  • Raise awareness about Army Warrant Officers and their contributions to the mission of the U. S. Army.

  • Erect a  Memorial to our Fallen Comrades over the years since the establishment of the Army Warrant Officer Corps.

  • Construct a Warrant Officer Historical Exhibit commemorating 100th Birthday of the Army Warrant Officer.

Streamer Presented to the Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter of USAWOA

 

Pictured left (l to r) Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter President CW2 Meisha Atkinson receives their latest Warrant Officer Heritage Supporter streamer from Foundation Board Chairman CW5 (Ret) Richard C. Markle at the Chapter's regular monthly meeting on February 18, 2010.  The Chapter was awarded their first streamer for meeting the USAWOA donation challenge towards the construction of a Memorial to our Fallen Warrant Officer Comrades and this streamer is to recognize their donation towards the construction of the historical exhibit commemorating the 100th Birthday of the Warrant Officer Corps. Additional presentations will be posted once the pictures are received. 2/25/10

 

 

Vice Chairman of the Board of the Foundation retires for the third time

 

Alfred E. "Al" Cox retired in December 2009 after six years of dedicated service on the Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation's Board of Directors. He was presented an engraved glass Eagle Rising in recognition of his faithful and dedicated efforts to preserve the history and heritage of the Army Warrant Officer. The presentation was made to Al at his home in Fayetteville, PA on January 27th by Treasurer Ron Whalen on behalf of Al's fellow Board Members. Al entered the Army on 26 May 1958 and was appoint and he accepted an appointment as Reserve of the Army Warrant Officer 1 (WO1) on 15 February 1967. CW3 (Promotable) Cox retired from the Army on 31 December 1978 with 20 years, 1 month and 8 days total military service. He entered civil service with the United States Department of Defense 1 June 1979.  He remained in civil service employment for fifteen years and attained the grade of GM-15/step 10, retiring on 31 May 1994, with a combined military and civilian service of 35 years 1 month and 8 days of total government service. Al also is a Charter Member of the U.S. Army Warrant Officers Association having joined in 1972. Over the years he served as President of the USAWOA Hanau Germany Chapter, USAWOA European Region President. and USAWOA National President in 1975-1976. Al  was elected to the Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation Board of Directors in 2003 and elected as Vice Chairman of the Board in 2005 from which position he retired in December 2009. Foundation announces Warrant Officer Memorial design

 

 

On November 3, 2009, Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation (WOHF) Chairman of the Board CW5 (Ret) Richard Markle visited the Army Historical Foundation (AHF). During the visit the WOHF proposal was presented for approval to place six granite benches funded by the Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation in the Memorial Garden of the National Museum of the U. S. Army (NMUSA) engraved in memory of our Fallen Warrant Officer Comrades. The  theme is "SOME GAVE ALL - ALL GAVE SOME" with each bench engraved to cover a period of conflict, i.e. 'THE WORLD WARS", “KOREA”, “VIETNAM”, “PANAMA - SOMALIA – HAITI”, “PERSIAN GULF” and “GLOBAL WAR ON TERROR”.  Also during the visit, Markle presented a $5,000 check to the National Museum Capital Fund Raiser in behalf of the Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation and the U. S. Army Warrant Officers Association (USAWOA). Also presented were two copies of WARRANT The Legacy of Leadership as a Warrant Officer history book, one for the NMUSA Research Library and the other as a desk reference for the AHF Historian. Also, on November 6th USAWOA National President CW5 Gary Nisker announced the Memorial Bench design and the $5,000 donation to the NMUSA Fund Raiser to the attendees at the USAWOA 37th AMM in Salt Lake City. CW5 Nisker also announced a campaign to raise $100,000 toward construction of a proposed Warrant Officer Historical Exhibit commemorating the 100th Birthday of the Army Warrant Officer Corps in July 2018 - see more.

Herrling, Campaign Executive Director, of The Army Historical Foundation.  The grant is to be used toward the construction of the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA). Pictured above right, CW5 (Ret) Markle presenting a leather bound copy of "WARRANT The Legacy of Leadership as a Warrant Officer" to Mr. Matt Seelinger, Chief Historian of The Army Historical Foundation, and editor of "On Point: The Journal of Army History," for the reference library of the NMUSA.  The presentations took place on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at The Army Historical Foundation headquarters in Arlington, VA. 

 

 

Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation direct donation method - individuals and organizations may make donations to the Foundation using PayPal. Donations will go towards the construction of a Memorial to Our Fallen Warrant Officer Comrades and an Army Warrant Officer Historical exhibit commemorating the 100th Birthday of the Army Warrant Officer Corps. You may also mail a donation to the Foundation by check if you prefer that method.

 

 

Recognition of Donations

 

The Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation recognizes all individuals and organizations who answer the challenges issued at USAWOA Annual Meetings.

 

All donations effective November 1, 2009, go to fund a proposed Warrant Officer Historical Exhibit for display in the planned rotating gallery at the planned National Museum of the United States Army commemorating the 100th Birthday of the Army Warrant Officer in July 2018.

 

All donations prior to November 1, 2009 went towards the construction of Warrant Officer Memorial Benches proposed for installation in the Memorial Garden at the planned National Museum of the United States Army.

 

All donations, without regard to size, will be acknowledged in writing for tax deduction purposes. See Donor List which updated as donations are received. A recognition program for major donations is being developed. We plan to announce the criteria in the first quarter of calendar year 2010.
